College Admissions Essay: A Career As An Engineer

The world around me flows in a different rhythm than mine. I live in a world in which excellence isn’t relative, it’s a standard; yet, other people seem to flow so calm and easy I wonder if they ever get stress at all. My parents demand much of me and sometimes push me over my limit in order for me to perform as expected. Even though their attitudes cause a lot of stress, I realize that in order to succeed further in life, I have to demand of myself much more than I can take. This life lesson has prepared me mentally for what I will have to deal in college. Fortunately, there are still more things to expect in college; things that I haven’t experienced yet. I still haven’t fully grasped my position in society. For instance, I skipped a grade and am currently coursing through 12th grade but supposed to be in 11th. This experience changed the way I look into life, making me adapt into the new system. This new system has brought forth many expectations that have shaped my decisions about my future. These expectations have taught me that I can be more than what people want me to be. So I have decided to avoid the traditional route of becoming a doctor or an engineer. Instead I choose to become a biomedical engineer to mix both traditional professions and go for a new approach on tomorrow’s …show more content…

Since I want to study over at the US I have to find my own preparatory courses in order to compete with those other applicants. Sadly, the school system doesn’t orientate us, the students that want to leave for the U.S. So we are at a disadvantage from those who do get oriented at their school. This disadvantage makes me work twice as hard to find information on many colleges and their biomedical engineering programs. Aside from the searching, I have to balance school work, soccer practices and my free time; but I know that this skill is essential to surviving the college
