Mess runs over people. Sometimes, they don’t get up. That’s life” which is much deeper than what I am going to get into but I relate to this because there are times where you just wanna give up on something. For example learning a new instrument or drawing. For me it was drawing, I gave up on drawing for a year or two because I felt I wasn’t good at it.
As cliché as it is, “get back on the horse that bucked you” is a crucial piece of advice to remember when struggling to surmount obstacles. These obstacles are personal barricades that we set up unconsciously based upon our fears. It may be easy to identify what we are afraid of and how to overcome it, but challenging our fears proves to be more difficult. Sometimes, we don’t even address these problems because we are subconsciously trying to avoid them such as in the beginning of The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley. The main character unknowingly tricks herself into thinking that just because she continues to get thrown from her horse, it will always hurt.
Opportunities and sheer luck have aided me in accomplishing what I have thus far. By random chance, I had the opportunity to grow up in an upper middle-class household. My parents follow “concerted cultivation,”
“Life moves pretty fast.if you don 't stop and look around a little, you could miss it,” - Ferris Bueller. [Think carefully about what this quote does at the start of your paper. Is it the most effective hook? How does it relate to your argument?] The film Ferris Bueller 's Day Off [review rules for italicizing movie titles] follows senior Ferris Bueller as he skips school with his girlfriend Simon and his best friend Cameron.
When I was a kid, I loved being outside and jumping rope. One day was different, I kept falling and was getting bruised and hurt. However, I stayed optimistic and went back outside. I was failing every time, but I was determined to get it right. Therefore, even though I was in a bad situation and kept getting hurt, I stayed hopeful and positive that I would get it at one point.
Like everyone, I have weaknesses thats make me fall but, I also have strengths that help me get right back up. Spending nearly third-teen years in education not counting four plus years that will be spent in college, motivation is what will be need to get us threw the failures and help achieve our goals. Threw grade school and high school I thought of myself as a “slow learn”. I new I needed help but never asked for it. Reading “brainology” by Carol Dweck showed me I have a “fixed mindset”.
I never gave up and continued to work my way out of my slump. As Babe Ruth once said, “[I] never let the fear of striking out keep [me] from playing the game.” I realized that everyone makes mistakes and can’t be perfect. This doesn’t just apply to baseball, but can apply to our everyday lives when it comes to relationships or even schoolwork. Odysseus was mentally struggling when he was on Circe’s island.
Although the world seems blurry and difficult, dedication helps keep you on the straight pathway to
I study and work hard to achieve my educational, financial, mental, and physical goals. I practice until I feel and have done the best of my ability and beyond. When I feel I have done well at something, I keep going knowing that I have only reached the minimum amount of success I can. Sometimes I can
When I received my class rank at the start of sophomore year, I told my father “11th is decent, but I can do better.” When junior year came, and I received the updated numbers, I said the same about being 4th, "I can do better". Here I am, 3rd in the class, battling through my senior year, and still pushing myself to do better. Pushing MYSELF. My determination to improve doesn 't stem from my parents, my coaches, my teammates or ANYONE demanding me to, but rather because I know that I am capable.
My coach always said, “There is somebody working just as hard as you, what sets you apart from them.” That created a fire inside of me because when it’s late at night and it’s been a long day, I go back to what he said and it drives me to get better. I feel this way when I train for baseball, when I do schoolwork, and when I do anything in life. It has also given me a dose of humility because I have come to understand that I may not be the most skilled player on the field at times but nobody will outwork me. It has created a drive to succeed in everything I do and a competitiveness that has set me apart from others.
I underestimated myself and talent but I knew that I can only last on talent for so long because I didn’t work and grind hard enough. This is where Derek Jeter’s quote came into my life and I started believing in it. Jeter stated, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” This quote now has taken over my life because for the past year I have worked so hard to get to the point where I am
I have always had to work through blood, sweat and tears to achieve where I am today. Even with setbacks it easy to give up on yourself but I remind myself to count my blessings. Where I am today being not where I was yesterday or last week, not even a year ago I was here. I came from living in near poverty conditions to be able to attend college and have food, clothes and a home.
I spend a significant amount of time just thinking about myself as I go throughout my day. I constantly question myself: why am I the way that I am, what could I have done better here, what is my place in the world, etc. In the context of this paper, I have come to a conclusion. In the past, I was a leader. Now, I realized I have failed.
A memorable day I my life is when I first found out I was a diabetic. I was scared and didn’t really understand what was happening. I was too sick, and for the most part out of my mind. But, what I do remember is a lot of pain and a few visitors. It wasn’t the best day and I don’t remember every detail.
