A young man in the high school ranks could be easily referred to as “green” or “wet behind the ears.” Which may be true in most cases but the benefits of them making the decision to enter said profession outweighs the forcing them into a college term by far. The athletes that play the sports, the big three, baseball, basketball, and football, should be allowed to go from the high school level to the pro level without the infusion of the NCAA or the professional league themselves.
To start, the athletes’ that are the tough, big men on campus type athletes, or even the athletes that have played the sports their whole life, are thrown into an element where that isn’t the case when they are compared to athletes and pro athletes nationwide. It …show more content…

Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Chipper Jones, Clayton Kershaw, Dwight Howard, are just a few of the illustrious alumni that heralded from their respective high schools. “With so much interest in signing the next great player, the pro teams have made it possible for talented athletes to leave high school and go directly to the pros.” (Abdul-Jabbar, N. page). Furthermore, the monetary sense it makes to jump the collegiate level is monumental, “some 80 percent of high schoolers drafted by the N.B.A. since 1995 became multimillionaires by the age of 21. Of the 29 prep stars who declared for the draft and hired an agent between 1975 and 2003, nine -- including Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett -- became stars, and all but three have had decent careers” (Shields, N. page). The game itself isn’t the biggest issue in this; it’s not even close compared to the kids and their wellbeing. But it’s vital because of the magnitude of sports, and what sports means to society. Sports figures are looked at and given the moniker of heroes, and we all are affected by sports in some way shape or form. The essence of the sport is what people watch it for, the heart, the passion, and the rivalry is what drives people to tune in. So, to take that away from the fan is devastating. “In 2005, the NBA and the NCAA decided to make the rule that required kids to no longer enter the NBA from their high school but to enter in a college for one year. In 2015, the Duke and Wisconsin National Championship game scored the highest rating at 9.8 million viewers. The Nielson Rating Scale that determines television ratings and their ranks saw this number for the first time since the NBA and NCAA decided to enforce this rule. It took ten years for the ratings to climb back up to normal where they had been before this rule was passed compared to most nationally televised sporting events” (Ryan 6).
