“College Calculus” Response

College, we’ve all heard of it. From the day we began going to school, adults have been

passing around this ideal that if you go to college, you’re guaranteed a job. However, as society

progresses and continues to reproduce, more and more people are going to college. So the

question this article poses is why? Why is college tuition increasing despite more people going to

college? Why are less jobs being offered to those who work hard and put themselves in debt?

The concept of human capital is quite simple. To put in blunt terms, as a result of college being

a commonality as well as humans in general, the fact remains that the government is beginning

It might not even be worth going to college anymore and accruing a massive

amount of debt just to work a job for the common man. Personally, I think humans simply can’t

undergo sustainable development, as evident in the fact that our economy is slowly deteriorating.

Debt increases, and the burden is put onto subsequent generations. This article made me think

where we're headed in the next few decades, even centuries. We might just make ourselves

extinct. We’re killing the Earth and many jobs will be replaced by robots. People might not even

care now, but to prevent a world ruled by machines and destruction of nature, we must act now.

The fact that there’s too many qualified people out there is already a warning sign. This

should be considered a blessing in disguise, because at the very least there is a fair amount of

educated people out there. However, they’re not fulfilling their purpose at their greatest potential.

It must be a bummer working an easy job that makes you feel mediocre and inferior at what you

could accomplish. Bottom line, this article made me think, if there’s no jobs for qualified people,

what’s the point of being qualified while paying off a student debt? Is it really worth it?
