Arthur Miller was an award-winning author, who wrote many plays over the course of his life. In 1953, he wrote a play called The Crucible. His intention in writing this play was to give readers insight into the, “strangest and most awful chapters in human history” (Miller back cover), or in other words, the Salem witch hunts and trials of the seventeenth century. The Crucible is based on real events and historical people and reflects the anti-communist hysteria based around the supposed witchcraft that was happening in Salem at that time. In 1996, a film based off of Arthur Miller’s play, also called The Crucible, was released.
Four months into the school year and this portfolio project has brought me to a number of realizations. The choices I made in my Technical Theatre I classes worked well, I feel they lead to a deeper understanding of the elements of design and they made points I had a hard time making in the past. While in my advanced class, I struggled to get a majority of students engaged in the large “Macbeth” project. During this semester, I came to the conclusion I need to fight more for the right to “approve” students for my advanced class. I don’t want my classes to become a dumping ground for students not willing to work.
The Federal Theatre Project was a New Deal plan, administered by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), during the Great Depression. The FTP came about during the height of the Great Depression, 1935, only four years before the Depression came to an end. The Great Depression has been referred to as the greatest economic disaster in the United States and lasted from 1929-1939 (history.com). During this time, nearly 13 million Americans were unemployed (history.com). The FTP was administered by the WPA in hopes to send many unemployed theatre professionals back to work.

Brattle Theatre offers interesting shows for guests every single day. They have a calendar for their scheduled shows that you can look at. Just take your pick and be awed with the best theatrical actors in the world.
This alcove of the basement museum will be designed to give visitors the experience of walking through the theatre. The current basement museum makes little reference to the theatre space upstairs. The history of the building and its role in the culture of the city is extremely important to the story of the assassination. For example, the reason doctors decided to remove the President from the building was because a theatre was too crude a place for a president to die, thus leading to their decision to move him across the street to the Petersen Boarding House. Ignoring the purpose of the building means ignoring a significant aspect to this story.
Upstage is back, downstage is front, right is left, left is right, out is up, break a leg but don't really, wings have nothing to do with birds, the catwalk doesn’t involve cats, and when the stage manager says move it means move. The theatre vocabulary is very confusing for the outside world, but for me it is my second language. More specifically, I have developed a passion for the technical elements of theatre over the years. The joy of being the “people in black” that can make amazing sets and produce incredible plays which goes unnoticed.. Although this discourse is much small yet complex it has helped me find out who I am but also in my academic skills through learning how to work in teams, solve problems independently but also how to be
“Don’t be afraid to explore, ask questions and take chances,” my dad would tell me. You see, my dad, an engineer, tried to get me to question everything. He is never afraid to learn a little bit more about something he already knows and is always eager to learn something new; I take after him. I love to learn, and figure out how things work. It's not surprising, then, that I plan on majoring in engineering; what is, perhaps, surprising, is that these same habits of mind led to me developing an interest in and passion for theatre.

For those who don’t know, Show Choir is a very difficult art that gets a lot of hate for no reason. If you would take time to notice Show Choir and other sports are very similar. We will also go into the pros and cons of doing Show Choir to show how difficult art is.
Capitol Theatre is at the current Capitol Building, located near City Hall MRT station. It is at the junction of North Bridge Road and Stamford Road. The theatre was built earlier in 1929. It was opened in 1930 and was one of the finest cinemas at that time. It cost $800,000 to buy the land and construct this theatre.
For one thing, each play has a unique character and because of their character we are able to see their background which prompts us to learn how to connect with the character. Now days the modern plays are so defined that it gives us an opportunity to be open about our gender. From my point of view, in the early 1940s and the 1960s people weren’t allowed to be who they truly wanted to be in public, with that being said, it’s ok to be LGBT. Moreover, the fact those playwrights are accepting the people who consider themselves LGBT, have shined a light on the movement. This also; helps people of all races to be comfortable of who they are and what they want to be.
The use of masks in theatre, both functionally and symbolically can be dated back to hundreds of decades ago, along with speculations that the earliest masks came from the Neolithic period. While it is yet unknown which civilization first created or developed masks, it is clear that the existence of these masks are not without justifications. The non-theatrical use of the word “mask” is often referred to as the concealing of “something from view”, usually the human face (Oxford Dictionary Online). However, in many different types of theatre, masks do not solely function for the purpose of concealing. The function of masks differs for different forms of theatre, and is dependent on the relevant attributing background factors.
Roman Theatres and Their Greek Counterpart In such a historically rich city such as Rome there are many spectacles to visit for one’s viewing pleasure. Typical sight-seeing tourists come through Rome expecting to witness monuments and buildings like the Pantheon, Colosseum and the Circus Maximus. However, one spectacle that seems to fly under visitor 's radars are the Roman Theatres.
Most people never would consider Centre, Alabama, a small sleepy Southern town with a laid back atmosphere that could put an incurable insomniac to sleep, home to a thriving community theatre. Theatre Centre provides entertainment, wonder, dread, and happiness for all who witness it. I have loved and adored the theatre ever since I was a small child, performing in every play I could. Standing on stage fills me with a sense of pride and happiness that can be found nowhere else in the world. I love theatre, and even though the theatre I love more than any other thrives in a small town in Alabama, I still have a wonderful experience every time I go.
For the past couple of year, acting is all I have know to do and it is something that I enjoy to do even though I do not get paid to do it. When acting, I do not have to be myself, but I am the character and when I am on a stage I do not get afraid or nervous because the people will not judge me. Some people will say that going into an acting major is not a smart decision because it's hard to get a job with it, but I'm willing to work hard and do
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are merely players,” (Shakespeare), meaning the whole world is like a stage show and humans are the actors. The quote proves that life can imitate art even when it’s not recognized, art is everywhere you look, in places you never thought to look. Theater is represented in any imaginable way, so why is it not good enough for a simple required subject in school? Fine arts such as drama, dance, and art programs get cut from high schools due to the expenses that go into them. People say theater is not needed for the future, no help in the “real world”, and it’s not a life skill.
