If you love a college football team and want to buy your favorite player’s jersey, wouldn’t you expect for a certain percentage of the revenue going to the player once you buy it? College Athletes currently don’t make any money, they do what their colleges tell them to do, look good, and make money for their universities. Tickets to college football games are sometimes very pricey, and those games that are televised generate a lot of money for colleges. Wouldn’t it make sense that some of the proceeds went to the players who play the game? An average ticket to a college football game varies from $27.00 - $113.00 per person. Their rationale was that the no-name look “represented one bond, one team and an emphasis on the fact that the more important name is not stitched across the back.” But college football players should have the opportunity to have jerseys with their name stitched across their backs, not only to be noticed by teams in the National Football League but to also feel special and be recognized by fans. But even when fans purchase a football jersey from Penn State, they still connect and identify the number to a particular player who has earned the fame and recognition among its fan base. Today college football players are not being paid, and while there are reasons as to why they shouldn’t be getting paid, there are far more reasons as to why they should be getting compensated. Very often student-athletes put all their hopes in becoming a pro someday, but with the sacrifices that have to make and with such difficult odds sometimes those who focused too much on football – and not enough on their degrees and a career for after football – end up being sad stories that we all have heard or seen in on TV. Another trend is that football college coaches in large state universities are often the highest paid employees in most states. Nick Saban, the head coach at the University of Alabama, has a salary of $5.6 million per year plus incentives that can amount to almost twice as much. Urban Meyers, the head coach at Ohio State University has a base salary of $4 million per year, plus $2.5 million in incentives and the contract was signed in 2014 which ends in 2020. This is more than their respective state’s governors, or any other elected government official. Not only coaches make a lot of money, but also athletic directors, assistant coaches, and people in the athletic department have salaries of over $1 million per year in some of these large state
