A multitude of people may argue that celebrities have a negative effect on teens, but Collin Palmer refuses to agree. Palmer, author of A Healthy Obsession, believes that the drama surrounding celebrity obsession is simply exaggerated. He also believes that some teens may be a little obsessed, but he reassures us that isn’t an unhealthy thing. Although Collin Palmer has a couple of agreeable points, King is correct when she said celebrities have a strong, negative effect on us. Teens do love to socialize, but sometimes they can’t find a topic. After all, it’s human nature to socialize. Palmer claims that celebrities are a conversation starter. He states, “Knowing the details about celebrities gives us something to talk about with each other” (5). If students begin to bond with each other, that’s fantastic.
