Nehemiah Wright Ms. Guidorizzi Junior English Per. 6 21 September 2016 Virginian Persuasion Patrick Henry, a revolutionary who could persuade a charging rhinoceros to change directions became one of the most important founding fathers during the early stages of the Revolutionary War. While the thirteen colonies were on edge trying to decide whether or not a permanent militia was to be put in place. Mr. Henry came to the forefront and, using words alone, swayed enough of the congressmen’s opinions to have that militia put in place.
Colonists who came to America differed greatly in backgrounds and settled for various reasons: Colonist in the New England Colony came to America primarily because they were religious reformers and separatist seeking a new way of life; the Middle Colony was inhabited by a tolerant and diverse group of people with different backgrounds; And the Southern Colony was mainly inhabited by English aristocrats, small farmers, and slaves. Because each colonial region inhabited different groups of colonists the social development differed greatly in each region. New England was founded on the Puritan faith and maintained a strong sense of faith, family, and community. New Englan was very strict on enforcing a strong sense Puritan religion, the lifestyle of colonist revolved around the puritan faith, so much so, it was referred to the "city upon a hill". Contrasting greatly with the New England Colony, the Middle Colony was greatly social and religiously diverse.
During the revolutionary war time period many speeches were wrote based on a political stance. This was a time in American history where things could have turned out very different. Most of the speeches were used as propaganda to sway the public in either direction for or against, to go to war with the British. The Revolutionary War was for a good cause and it pivotal in making America what it is today. The founding fathers of our country all put in their opinion on what should do, whether we should go to war with the British or stay under the Kings arm and continue to pay the taxes.
United States’ diversity has been since the beginning of time. These are the changes that shaped our world today. The New England; Rhode island, new Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut , Middle; New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania and Southern Colonies; Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Maryland grew differently over the period 1619-1760. Examining the three sets of colonies will prove that they were all different but similar: socially and culturally, economically, politically.
“We must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight!” (Henry 103). This speech by Patrick Henry was delivered before the Revolutionary War in an effort to persuade the colonists to go to war immediately against Britain. Patrick Henry’s “Speech to the Virginia Convention” used logos as the most effective persuasive technique because it appealed to the reasoning of the colonists and questioned the British intentions.
Revolutionary Speeches: A Common Purpose The revolutionary speeches composed of by Patrick Henry and Thomas Paine both have common goals in terms of the changes that they want made to the way of life for all Americans. The technique and manner in which the two conduct their speeches are significantly different, though. Patrick Henry’s speech is mainly to persuade the Virginia Convention to be more assertive toward the British government, and to prepare for war if the convention's voice was not acknowledged by them. Thomas Paine’s speech, “The Crisis: Number 1”, was also to written to persuade the American people.
A role of an individual in society can be played many ways, one of them being that people should fight for their country. This can be exhibited in "Speech to the Virginia Convention" by Patrick Henry ,where Henry believes his country should fight for freedom against the British. He is calling on the patriots of Virginia to arm themselves in order to be prepared to fight the British if they do not yield to some of their demands. The author encourages this message by their emotional appeals and literary devices. In the text, the author exposes the audience to prepare for war by conveying them to fight for their country.
Most of the colonies in America were settled by the English, which makes them similar in many designs. However, there are a few aspects that differentiate between colonies, such as in the Chesapeake and New England regions. Reasons for settlement, religions, and geography all played an important role in the development of colonies in these regions. These conditions were natural and mostly subject to circumstances and conditions that were unchangeable. Nonetheless, no matter the modest causes, the effects were very substantial in helping to develop the uniqueness of each region.
The role of a leader is to support and consider what will benefit their people, however, this does not always happen. British colonists left their mother country because they disagreed with the ruling and wanted to be independent of a king. Although separated by an ocean, the colonies were still supported and indirectly ruled by Britain. The British government took advantage of North American resources and cheated the colonists out of their money by placing restrictions of trade and taxing necessary goods.

Rhetorical Analysis Convincing people of something or to do something is not an easy task but Patrick Henry's “Speech to the Second Virginia Convention” shows how well someone can persuade people when they trust you, appeal to their emotions, or back up what you are saying with facts...ethos, pathos, and logos. The purpose of this speech is to persuade the colonist to fight against the british. Patrick is talking to the members of the virginia convention and what they need to do to become free. Patrick Henry uses ethos to help convince the audience that he knows what he's talking about and how they should trust him.
This sense of community is brilliant and helps to create a whole place of religious belief in districts and towns. With this they can feel safe in a community and have a feeling of togetherness which isn’t as easy to find in this new and modern world. Although on the contrary it can create a feeling of hate due to the fact that in a Christian country like Britain another religion coming in and making a place their own and making it muslim or jewish instead of christianity can mean that anti-semitism and islamophobia can grow and develop.
