Nathanial Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown is a story about a man who sets off on a journey into the woods. Through the journey, he questiones his own beliefs and encounters with lots of strange things which ends up in losing his virtue and faith at all. The journey turns into a self-discovery rather than just going for a walk. In the story, he says farewell to his wife Faith ,when leaving his house . She does not want her husband to leave but she has to say goodbye in hesitation. She puts pink ribbons in her cap which symbolizes her innocence as well as youthfulness. Pink ribbons not only symbolizes the purity and the goodness in people but also it stands as a symbol for the result of Young Goodman Brown's journey. But actually, pink is a combination of two colours. First one is white which represents purity and the second colour isred, which can be a symbol of evil and temptation. The people that Young Goodman Brown encounters in the woods and the facts that he faces with make readers to think that the combination of the two colours are not a coincidence, indeed there is a posibility that every person can have hidden evil characteristics beside their innocent appearances.
