Here Daisy is proving to understand the real world and is not hiding behind her innocent facade pretending she does not understand, she is being true. White serves as an important example of symbolism in the book. Green also serves as a powerful symbol in the novel, representing hope, envy and jealousy. These emotions are exactly what someone who is desperately trying to achieve the “American dream” might experience. An important use of green is the green light at the end of Daisy Buchanan's dock. Gatsby always looks at the green light across the water. This symbolizes the hope of his unattainable dream, rekindling his past relationship with Daisy. The light serves as a beacon of hope and aspiration for him. In a way pushing his pursuit of wealth and success so he can be with her. Green is also associated with east and west eggs where everyone lives. Gatsby and the other wealthy new money members of society live in West Egg.
