Living as a colored person in the 1950s was much different from how it is today. First starters, even thinking, right now, about using a different bathroom, or have to live in a separate neighborhood from people that are a different race than me, would be a crazy thought. This happens to be how the Youngers lived at this time in life. The Youngers, who lived in Chicago spend most of their live in a cooped up house with five other people.
