The above quote comes from Marcus in Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. Under Aaron’s plot, Demetrius and Chiron raped Lavinia and cut off her hands and tongue. Marcus is the brother of Titus. He finds her niece Lavinia and it gives him heart pain to see her like this. Commanding Marcus, Shakespeare pictures Lavinia’s beauty and innocence vividly, so that we could once again confirm Lavinia’s character, a symbol of purity and goodness. In contrast with the language that describes the beauty of Lavinia, Marcus also gives a description of the wound that Lavinia carries.
