Every book, movie, or play has a common theme. The Taming of the shrew shows a common theme with the lovers Katherina and Petruchio. But, one might ask, isn’t it true that their relationship is more one sided. It may seem like this is one sided, but that’s just one’s way of expressing love. Kate and petruchio are true lovers throughout the taming of the shrew. The Taming of the Shrew has a common theme with Katherina and Petruchio in their personalities. “Good morrow, Kate for that’s your name, I hear. Well have you heard, buy something hard of hearing - They call me Katherine that do talk of me. You lie, in faith, for you are just plain kate”(II.i.178-181). Katherina is shown to contradict almost everything she hears. In this quote when Katherina is answering Petruchio, they show a common theme as Katherina always contradicts Petruchio on subtle details like the sun in the sky or the clothes he wears during their wedding. “Thy virtues spoke of and thy beauty sounded - yet not so deeply as to thee belongs” (II.i.188-190). Petruchio’s common theme is demonstrated over and over again how customs don’t matter so much that you change you personality in response. Though this may not always be the case.
