In the book titled Mexican Whiteboy written by Matt De La Pena the main protagonist, Danny is a boy who struggles to understand where he is really from so he decided to visit his father to learn more about his background and family history. Family is very important in life because you have people who can help support you in anything you choose to do in life.
With much of the world becoming focused on individual goals and ideas, it is necessary to remember the importance of family relationships. Through family bonds, people may find support that they would not find anywhere else, giving them the strength to push through difficult situations. The support that family relationships provide may be seen with an example from my own life as well as from Elie Wiesel’s novel Night. Family can be very crucial when it comes to dealing with tough situations in life.
This chapter of Reclaiming Conversation by Sherry Turkle essentially focused on the effect technology can have on the bond of a family. The writer depicts different families to prove how social media has creates a false sense of closeness in family relations, when in reality it drives us further apart. This is a common situation in which teenagers feel more comfortable going out of their way on social media to obtain advice from strangers, instead of having a conversation with
For children and young people to develop positive relationships it is crucial for adults to model effective communication in the classroom. As a teacher or teaching assistant, you have the platform to facilitate social learning and lead by example. One of the main reasons why effective communication is important, is because it makes children feel happy and comfortable at school, and in your presence. Not only will this help children to thrive in a learning environment, but will also filter through to their lives at home and outside of school.
It is hard to imagine a life where people have to leave their family multiple times and fear that they will lose a family member at any moment. Loung Ung, a Cambodian girl, had to endure this through most of her childhood. She has to deal with the loss of most of her family at the young age of five. The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing. In life, there is a universal desire for oneness among people—we want to belong. It is why we collaborate, support common causes, cheer for sports teams, feel nationalism; it’s why we build villages, towns, and cities. Families are where we connect ourselves in relationships to past, current, and future generations. For many, family is not only a blessing, but our greatest accomplishment.
During this semester, I gained a lot of skills and knowledge about interpersonal relations. As a human being, as a member of the "global village", everyone need to communicate with others. It is important to learn how to communicate well and how to build a healthy and positive interpersonal relationship with others. Like the textbook’ name “Looking Out Looking In”, we looked in the communication itself, looked out the language barrier, nonverbal messages and effective listening, and looked at relational dynamics. I learned and recognized about how environmental factors can impact our communication.
1 With new technology today, people can do so many things over the phone. Texting and calling can be much more convenient than setting up a time to talk face to face. It is not secret that kids cannot interact as well as their parents can. Children spend so much time on social media or texting and calling, they don’t have that great of a skill level when it comes to socially interacting. Kids do talk to one another face to face, but they are not as great at the skill as they should be.
Through all the tough and terrible situations a person may be wrapped up in your family is usually the group of people you can go to, and get the best most helpful advice. In my family I have certain people that I can automatically go to and tell them my problems without being judged, and I always get the best advice. People in your family are the people you keep closest to you because they are blood, and they’re not friends that come and go. They are blood and will always be apart of you and want nothing but the best for you. People in a family that give the best advice are the ones who have gone through so many battles in their life because they know what it takes to overcome them.
