Communism is defined as the theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole to the state. The Korean War also known as the Forgotten War began on June 25, 1950 when North Korea crossed the 38th parallel, which divides Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North) and Republic of Korea (South). The 38th parallel was and still is the boundary between North and South Korea, with North Korea being communist and South Korea being anti-communist. The US joined on behalf of the United Nations, in order to stop communism from spreading, thus the beginning of the Korean War. This was the first step into stopping the spread of communism, the US decided to use military force in order to prevent the spread of communism. If the US didn’t intervene the Soviet Union would not stop until they controlled every place. The Korean War was not simple for the US to fight, it required a lot of time, patience, and lives. North Korea was well prepared, when it came to fighting, the soldiers were well trained, equipped, disciplined and ready to overcome any obstacles. South Korea on the other hand was the complete opposite, the soldiers were terrified and confused and did not want to fight the war, the soldiers wanted to leave at any available opportunity. There were millions of people dying from starvation due to the fact that crops were never successfully able to grow, Korea is not the place to grow food because of the terrible land and weather. Weather is not like here in California where the sun is out most days and it hardly ever gets cold. In Korea summers are unbearably hot and dry, winters are excruciatingly cold, with temperatures under zero degrees and spring bringing in constant rainfalls. This kind of weather made it extremely difficult to fight the war, American soldiers were not accustomed to the crazy weather Korea had.
