Historical Events That Prove That the Main Political Value in Animal Farm is Communism Joseph Stalin killed approximately 10,000,000 innocent people including people with mental and physical handicaps, homosexuals, foreigners, and anyone who was against his cause or wanted his power. This is just one example of communism. In George Orwell’s book “Animal Farm” there are very strong tones of communism throughout the book. I believe that there several historical events that you can reference to see the communism in this book. Some historical events that are similar to Animal Farm are: the Russian government under Stalin, the Cuban government under Fidel Castro, and the Japan government under Hideki Tojo. Tojo went by the nickname “Razor Tojo” for his strictness and sharp attention to detail. Tojo had climbed the political ladders because of the attention he had gained for his high hopes for the strongest military in the world. His rise to the top wasn’t only due to his agenda, he had the country’s military faction by his side every step of the way and he used this to his advantage by using muscle to take care of anyone who would oppose him or his agendas. This is comparable to Animal Farm because Napoleon also used military-like tactics to get his place at the top of the “political ladder”. He raised his dogs from the time they were puppies and told all of the other animals that he was giving them private schooling. He then raised them to listen to his every word and to defend him at all costs. There are several examples in Animal Farm where the dogs growl or intimidate the other animals for doubting Napoleon or speaking badly about him. When Napoleon executed some of the animals for having ties to Napoleon, the dogs were his executioners. As I mentioned previously, Napoleon and Snowball were in competition for the main leader of Animal Farm. Napoleon was seemingly losing this competition until he used the dogs to run Snowball off of the farm, thereby leaving himself as the only clear animal with a chance at the …show more content…

However, while these examples given were dictators, the countries that they were in control of were communist countries. All of the three examples that are given in this paper took place during the “Red Scare”. The Red Scare was basically the fear of communism and the spreading of communism to countries that were not already communist countries. The United States and all of the other countries that weren’t communist were afraid of communism spreading because the plan of the USSR was to take over the entire planet and make every country communist. So therefore, while the leaders mentioned were dictators, the countries that they ruled were communist because of their core values and the hopes that they had for their ideal
