There are multiple gaps that the Hispanic population in the chosen community is facing when it comes to their health. Some few that will be discussed may include dietary pattern and food availability, physical activities, lack of recreational environment and level of education. According to a study conducted by Davis in 2013, dietary pattern of low income population among Hispanic adult with diabetes were measured on their food base rather than nutrient based. The participants were 235 Hispanic adult living in the Southeast Bronx to test between their demographic variables and dietary patterns score by using food frequency questionnaire. The study justified that people in the Southeast Bronx were among the poorest environment with toxic waste. When it comes to their physical activities due to low income, the availability of recreational facilities, presence of sidewalks and bicycle lanes, nearby parks and playgrounds, street connectivity, accessible and safe places to be physically active may differ by income level and race/ethnicity. According the article physical inactivates has contributed to 200,000 death and mental health in the United States among the low income population. The Hispanic population has the lowest level of physical activities and high level of chronic diseases. The Hispanic’s also having the highest level of non-leisure time engagement of physical activates and highest number of obese people (Taylor 2006). Going around this community, the researcher happened to speak with multiple adults on how they were not being active and do not involve in some of recreational activities. He also emphasized that most of them came from where all these western foods were not available so they adopt this style here and do not want to change as it has become part of them. From my perspective the most serious gap among dietary pattern and food availability, physical activities, lack of recreational environment and level of education is the educational level. This is because when one is educated, the most beneficial aspects of your life are always on the table for you to focus on. Frist it leads one to a healthier life style, engage in anything that will lead to healthy life, and abstain from any unhealthy behavior. This population is already among the low income population who do not have multiple choice or other options on what kind of life they want to adopt. Therefore education is rang the most important to me. Then unavailability of healthy food will be ranked as second.
