Ancient Korea vs. Byzantine Empire The Byzantine empire and ancient Korea had very different characteristics. Both had similar jobs and government. But, had different kind of economy, farming, geography and religion. Their religion is the most different, the byzantine empire’s main religion was Christianity. The ancient Koreans switched between Shamanism, Confucianism and Buddhism. This is mostly because of where the civilizations were. Both of the governments were monarchies. Korea had emperors and so did the Byzantine empire. Both worked very well for both civilizations. The terrain or geography of the two civilizations were very different. Korea is in the pacific ocean so it has a mix of weather. Korea has green hills, mountain ranges, and some plains. The Byzantines were in the Mediterranean sea.They had a very rugged terrain. It was very rocky and mountainous with not a lot of vegetation. The Mediterranean has similar terrain all the way around. Where as Korea is green almost everywhere. Their economies were almost similar. The Byzantine Empire had the most powerful economy in the world until the Arab conquests. Both had craftsmen traders and farmers. The byzantine empire had over 80% of their as population farmers. Korea had lots of blacksmiths. They also had lots of farmers especially peasant farmers. The Byzantine’s terrain was not very suitable for growing most crops except for olive trees and some grapes. They made the most of it, because they could make wine out of the grapes, sell just the grapes, sell just the olives, or make olive oil.With the very green terrain Korea had they could grow rice, potatoes and barley. They could sell of these on the silk road for the europeans wanted/needed these
