In today’s Christian society, there are two very different views of theology: Calvinism and Arminianism. Arminianism was started by a Dutch theologian named Jacobus Arminius, as well as his supporters who were known as the Remonstrants. Calvinism, (also called Reformed Theology) on the other hand, is a system of biblical interpretation that was taught by the Reformer and French theologian, John Calvin. Both Arminianism and Calvinism have very different views on salvation. The idea of Arminianism is that it rejects the idea of predestination, unconditional election, limited atonement, and irresistible grace. The Arminian believes that Heavenly Father is on a compassionate God, who could only love every person in the whole world. Because He loves everyone, He extended the gift of salvation to every person, and everyone has free will, so they can choose or not choose to receive salvation. Calvinists on the other hand believe in the soverngtey of God, and it is because of His great love for His children. Heavenly Father alone elects people to salvation, because we cannot even recognize our own sin and our need for a Savior.

They use verse like 2 Peter 3:9 to defend this argument. “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance” (English Standard Version, 2 Peter 3:9). They also use Paul’s words in 1 Timothy 2:4 as a biblical foundation for their argument. “[God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4).
