Compare And Contrast Divergent And The Hunger Games

In the stories “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent” they are alike in a lot of ways, such as the characters are a boy and a girl and they both have to fight for what they want. But most of all they both have the same theme. Fight for what you want and you might get it, physically and mentally.

In “Divergent” a girl lives in a community that is isolated from the rest of the world. In this community there are groups that they call Factions. You are born into a Faction and when your 16, Choosing Day comes around and you are forced to pick which Faction you want to be in. These Factions include Dauntless, Erudite, Candor, Amity, and Abnegation. A girl named Beatrice is born into Abnegation where you have to be selfless. But she chooses Dauntless …show more content…

In this story there are places called Districts that are kind of like Factions in “Divergent”. Katniss Everdeen lives in this world where her district provides coal for the capitol where the rich people who run the world live. The Hunger Games is where two kids, one boy and one girl, from each of the 12 districts get sent into an Arena where they have to fight to the death. Whoever wins gets supplied with food for a year and can not be messed with by the capitol again. Katniss is the girl who gets sent in from her district. And Peeta Mellark, a boy who has always had a crush on Katniss, is sent in as well. they are sent in to fight each other, but they don’t, they stick together, and they both win because they threaten the capitol by saying they will eat poisonous berries so they can’t have a winner. The fight the other districts and the capitol for their life and they get what they want.

In the end we now know that “Divergent” and “The Hunger Games” are very similar. That their themes mean the same thing that if you want something enough that you have to fight for it. In “Divergent” Tris or Beatrice has to fight for the city that she loves and Tobias who she is madly in love with. And in “The Hunger Games” Katniss has to fight for her life and Peeta who she falls in love with during the hunger games. These two series are nail biters and keep you at the edge of your seat.
