Judy Fong-Bates short story “The Gold Mountain Coat” and Susan Young’s poem “Wordsmith” portray a strained relationship between a father and his children. Both the fathers are distant from their children but while the father in “Wordsmith” makes sincere efforts to bond with his daughter, Sam sing from “The Gold Mountain coat” chooses to remain strict and unapproachable towards his two sons. From the beginning of both the pieces of literature, the main difference of love and approachability is evident. Sam Sing fails to show any emotion towards his sons even though they work hard for him in the chinese restaurant. The Industrial Revolution began in England during the late 1700’s. This movement introduced improved agricultural methods, textile industries, and the export of machine-made goods. Because the agricultural business was finding more efficient ways to manage their products, the working class decreased in this field (Document 7). This extreme drop in numbers led to people whining for a steady, supportive job. Luckily for the thousands of unemployed, the demand for factory workers increased (Document 2).
The social elements between 1820-1840 were greatly affected by the fight for presidency between Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams, in the election of 1828. Jackson highlighted that he had a humble beginning, a military career, and a support for democratic values (Keene, 234). Jackson’s supporters praised his dedication to democracy and criticized his opponent’s aristocratic background. The people who supported Adams, defended his idea of traditional republicanism and gave warning to supporters of Jackson that he would ultimately undermine the constitutional system of America. The events of the election of 1824 greatly colored the main disputes in this election.
The cause of most political dispute around 1820-1860 was mostly about slavery. There has been division between the North and the South, though compromise had usually sufficed in calming the controversy. However, nearing 1860, political compromise appeared useless. Comprises simply postponed addressing the issue, and led to even greater issues,compromise wasn’t working politically, socially,and economically for the nation.
The Industrial Revolution, lasting from the late 1700s until the early 1900s, was possibly one of the greatest time periods in this world’s history. This time period caused people to think more and dream bigger. From these big dreams rose up inventors, entrepreneurs, and business owners. The Industrial Revolution brought many new inventions and production processes, but along with great new things come great terrible horrors. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the new production methods and what they produced, it was actually a negative thing for society.
