A leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. Being a leader is a hard task, in the book The Odyssey and in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou, both Odysseus, and Everett have chosen to be the leader and lead their men toward the “treasure”. While both men are leaders, I think that Odysseus was the better leader compared to Everett.
To start, I believe that Everett is an average leader, he is neither good nor bad. Everett did some positive things and negative things. Some positive things that Everett did were when they were going to get caught by the cops at the end. Odysseus showed way more positive leadership traits than Everett. One positive thing that he did was at their 2nd stop, the Lotus Eaters. He learned from his experiences and knew that he should only send three men instead of them all. He also ordered them not to eat the lotus and if they did they would not make it home. Odysseus went back to fetch the men because he knew that he would not get addicted. A second thing that Odysseus did that shows better leadership than Everett is when they were in the land of Aeaea. In Aeaea, the witch Circe turned all of the people who came near into animals. All of Odysseus' crew that went near got turned into pigs. The gods gave Odysseus a herb so that he would not turn into a pig. Since he didn’t turn into a pig she thought that she was superior and turned all of his crew back into humans. Another positive leadership trait that Odysseus showed was at the danger strait. He knew that there were two options and he didn’t tell the crew the options. One option was to try to get past the whirlpool and if they didn’t make it they would all die. The other option was to face the six-headed monster and only have six people die. He was extremely smart by not telling his crew because they would probably have drifted towards the whirlpool and all died instead of just six people dying. In all, I think that Odysseus did a wonderful job being a leader, while he did have some faults along the way there
