Patriot Essay Patriot: “A person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion. Many people became patriots during the Revolutionary War that lasted from 1775-1783 against the British for independence from Great Britain. America was able to beat the British because of many heroes and leaders. Four such were: Daniel Morgan, Nancy Hart, Nathan Hale, and Sybil Ludington. On that day, it was just her and her daughter, Sukey, at the house working until a whig leader came running by her house trying to escape the Tories. Out of breath, he begged her if she would help him. Agreeing, she allowed him to pass through her house to lead them off his trail. Not too long after, the Tories he mentioned appeared. They asked if she had seen anyone pass by. Nancy looked them dead in the eye, responding no (Ouzts). The Tories weren’t buying any of it. They demanded her to cook them supper and serve them wine and beer. Nancy refused, saying there was nothing for her to cook for them.
