The French and American Revolutions had similar motivations to better their governments. They differ on how they should reach their goals and outcomes The American and French revolutions both wanted their people to be seen as equals, and allow them to have some natural rights. Sovereignty was viewed differently by the two parties. The core reason for each revolution is different, but they end up with the same ideas in their declarations document. Both these documents are composed by prominent thinkers, like John Locke’s who was Second Treatise of Government and Jean Jacques Rousseau’s Social Contract. The Americans was protected by the common law rights of the British. With that being said Parliament had no consent on giving taxes to the colonies. This was also written into their Bill of Rights. The Americans were not going to pay on any taxes because Parliament had no command or representation over the colonies, thus the slogan “no taxation without representation.” In 1773, The Americans boycotted imports from Britain. Colonists dressed up as Indians and dumped crates of tea into the Boston Harbor because they refused to pay taxes. British soldiers that were in the colonies were also attacked. All of these thing led to the American Revolution. The French Revolution was much influenced by the American Revolution. It was the rise of people coming together with a voice to have a say so in what was going on in their governments at the time. However, the Americas wanted their own government set apart from the British Parliament.
