Jesus of Nazareth was the proclaimed Son of God sent to earth as a baby. The lives of these two men never crossed, but their legacies are often compared. Called "Mahatma" (great soul) and "Messiah" (savior), they were globally admired for their noble character, great deeds, and eventual death for their cause. But what characteristics did these great leaders really share, and what were the beliefs that made them different?

Very few of them were wealthy or in positions of power, because they enjoyed the benefits of the British Empire and could be ruined by it's demise. Because he had such masses of followers, they were difficult to control and often rioted despite his calls for nonviolence. As things progressed Gandhi became less of a leader and more of a reason to fight for a common purpose: the freedom of India. Jesus, however, had no cause for which His followers could fight but rather a message for them to apply and spread to others. His followers were not automatically attracted to Him as Gandhi's were, and all He had in terms of recognition was a brief introduction from John the Baptist. Instead Christ sought out His disciples, calling them to him by name and pursuing the people who needed Him most. He was known to heal them, feed them, (Matthew 14:13-21) and teach them. In turn, many went and dedicated their lives to declaring the Gospel. Jesus never abandoned his followers in mortal death, but was resurrected after being crucified and later sent the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-13) to dwell in His
