Parton seamlessly defined country music with pop music, while maintaining her image as a country star. Parton exclaimed, “I’m not leaving country,” she said at the time, “I’m just taking it with me”
In the pieces “Siren Song” by Margaret Atwood and “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been” by Joyce Carol Oates, the authors play on the idea of how a hunger for lust can be a hunt and turn the character into a predator. In order for the predator to achieve this, they must know the prey and it’s weakness very thoroughly. In “Siren Song”, the predator is a siren who attempting to attract men to her position. On the contrary, in “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been”, the hunter is Arnold Friend, who tries to appeal to Connie’s weaknesses. Both characters have a firm understanding of the prey they are hunting,
Many people enjoyed listening to this kind of country music while riding their horse, taking a walk, or even traveling through train! Many of the country music songs would tell about their love, life, or family and making a difference in musicians. Songs of this era would be played on recordings, including the famous “Grand Ole Opry”, and on radio shows by advertising. I do think that these themes have changed very much in modern country music. This is because back then there songs use to be very subtle and lots of jazz, now a-days our country music have lots of instruments with classical music to it and strong voice to sing different harmonies.
However, given the different interpretations on the song itself, I enjoyed Leontyne Price’s version the most. Listening to all three versions, I felt Price was able to portray the emotion within the song to the audience and was rather accessible. When listening to Price’s version, I am filled with emotion and can feel the sadness within the song. Unfortunately, when listening to Billie Holiday’s version, her talents are portrayed in the song. However, it is almost a repetitive sound, repetitive in the way that the song itself reminds me of Holliday’s other work that I have being exposed to previously.
Little Richard first released “Tutti Frutti” in 1955, and Elvis Presley released his version in 1956. Both versions of the songs sound similar in that they invoke a feeling of happiness and a desire to get up and dance. However, these songs are not identical. The lyrics for both versions are almost identical except for a few extra non-word sounds at the end of some lines.
Young ladies that grew up during the 20th century would be progressive in the role and the power imbalance of genders. Using whatever means, whether to leave the household to peruse an education, take part in a workforce, or even using their sexuality, to gain independence and tip the scale of the power imbalance. Sometimes it works out, while other time it may give a false perception of who really holds the power. These can be compared and contrast between the two short stories, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been," by Joyce Carol Oates and "Only Daughter," by Sandra Cisneros. In "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been," by Joyce Carol Oates focuses on finding independence and the line between reality and fantasy, while "Only Daughter," by Sandra Cisneros deals with breaking social norms and tradition and isolation.
Country music has gone through several changes over the years that some fans have embraced while others fans have shunned the changes. This popular genre originated in the southeastern states back in the early 1900’s and was well known for the indulgent sounds of stringed instruments such as the banjo, fiddle, and guitar. Many early country songs contained lyrics that told the stories of a love-stricken, or a heart broken cowboy. The country songs of old were adored by many different types of individuals. In the mid 1900’s, families used to sit around and listen to their beloved country music stars on the radio show The Grand Ole Opry, which was known as the nation’s favorite radio show of the 1950s according to the Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia(Grand
Horace Mann was a man who changed the education system for ever. He proposed six new principles for the education of children, 1. citizens cannot maintain both ignorance and freedom, 2. education should be paid for and publically run, 3. education should be provided that embrace children from varying backgrounds, 4.
She wrote this song to express her gratitude and love for Wagoner. She wanted to thank him for everything he did for her. She also wanted to express her love for him and to let him know that even though she is leaving his show, she will always love him. Whitney Houston on the other hand, has an entirely different story. In 1975, Whitney was playing the lead female role for the film “The Bodyguard”.
In the case of “I Will Always Love You”, these two versions carry somewhat similar, yet entirely different feelings and emotions. Hope giving and soothing singing of Dolly Parton versus the proclaiming and powerful performance of Whitney Houston only allow these two versions to be
Leilah Smith Dr. Cothren English II G March 1, 2018 Behind the Scenes: The Blissfulness of Nature Nature is a pure and natural source of renewal, according to Romantics who frequently emphasized the glory and beauty of nature throughout the Romantic period. Poets, artists, writers, and philosophers all believe the natural world can provide healthy emotions and morals. William Wordsworth, a notorious Romantic poet, circles many of his poems around nature and its power including his “The World is Too Much With Us” and “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.”
A Song for you is about a man trying to show the woman he loves her, and the poem seems to be about a love that is crossing social classes. Both of these texts would probably be looked at the same way by audiences
