The Treaty of Nanjing, similar to the Treaty of Versailles, left tension between two countries, Great Britain and China. After the opium wars, the Treaty of Nanjing was written due to the unfair treatment of China by Great Britain (Doc 1). The fifth article of the UN states that “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” (Doc 5).

Established in 1945 after the World War II, United Nations Security Council is the most powerful organ among the six organs in United Nations with the authorized power to issue legally binding resolutions. This council consists of 15 members, 5 Permanent Members – the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China – and 10 Non-Permanent Members voted by the UNGA for 2 years term. According to the charter, the responsibility of UNSC is to maintain international peace and security. It determines the threat to peace and act of aggressor; moreover, it investigates any disputes between the UN Member states. The United Nations Security Council also has the military force to prevent or stop the aggressor.
Ben Gurion states the essential problem in Israel/Palestine: “we and they want the same thing: We both want Palestine. And that is the fundamental conflict.” (Shlaim, 2001, p. 18) For both Israelis and Palestinians it is nationalist conflict, there is a clear reason in the action of both parties, a territorially secure state. People believe that the primary cause of wars and violence worldwide is religion. They base this assumption on two reasons; the first reason is examples of some wars that were actually caused by religion, the second one is words in the religious books that are misinterpreted. Most of those who believe that religion is the cause of wars, give the example of the Israeli-Palestinian, which according to these people is caused by religious beliefs. Jews believes that Palestine is actually the location of the ancient land of Israel, which according to the Hebrew, was granted to the Jews by God.
