“A house divided against itself cannot stand” was said by the sixteenth president Abraham Lincoln, who made everything look easy. Although this statement was years before the civil war, it was proven to be true due to the fact that the civil war was fought from people arguing. Unlike Lincoln, Frederick Douglass didn’t have it easy, he had to fight for his freedom throughout the horrendous slavery he dealt with. Throughout Lincoln and Douglass, it is clear that they were leaders and heros, even though some people argued that they are not. Lincoln has brought change to everybody’s life’s by using the power that he had, from being the president and more. For example, on September 22, 1862, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. That decree stated that if the Confederacy did not surrendered by January 1, 1863, he freed all of the slaves in the south, which in the end all the slaves in the south were freed. For example, some people thought Lincoln was not as successful in impeaching slavery his first time rather than his second. In the event, the Emancipation Proclamation was not as success as the thirteenth amendment, because the Proclamation did not apply to all the slaves, unlike the thirteenth amendment. But because it did not free all slaves, the minority of people criticized it just from that factor. On the other side, some people thought it was hard to believe that Frederick Douglass was a slave, because slaves don’t get as educated as some people. However with that some people thought that Frederick and Abraham did not work together enough, because when they did work together they came up with the Emancipation Proclamation, and the idea that if slaves could join the Union army they would become free.
