Compare And Contrast Lincoln And Jefferson Davis

In many ways, Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln compared and contrasted amongst many ideals, the most decisive being the issue of slavery. Lincoln would compare with Davis over the defense of slavery and the inferiority of African-Americans . Regardless, the two presidents would differ amongst slave rights (liberty) and expansion of the institution. Throughout a dismal time of America succession and the civil war began the idea of slavery would shift politics into two dominant factions. Firstly, Davis defended slavery and believe it to be the right institution for blacks as for he was the president of the south. Examples being, the Kansas-Nebraska act of 1854 getting rid of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 leaving the both states to eventually become slave dominated. This would outrage the opposing side leading to the creation of the finalized political faction, Republicans and the rest from there is history. More in depth, Davis believed that it was fine to expand slavery, specifically because it was “Protected in the fourth article of the Constitution”. And result of that being infringed on and Lincoln’s election lead to the seceding of most of the southern states (1861) and creation of the Confederacy. On the other hand Lincoln and his party didn’t believe expansion was the way to go, especially to the fact that the market has evolved into an industrial type rather than an agrarian as Jefferson’s. Anywho, the dislike of expansion was prevalent and alive, for instance, Lincoln signs D.C. Compensated Emancipation (1862) act banning slavery in that area. Not only did Lincoln do it there he signed the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 not freeing the slaves but essentially allowing the too fight for their possible freedom in the north as of early 1787 NorthWest Ordinance passing.
