The Speech in the Virginia Convention by Patrick Henry and the Speech in the Convention by Benjamin Franklin both have similarities and differences but they are both about the views on compromise and when to stand firm. Patrick Henry had a better standpoint then Benjamin Franklin did in their speeches. Patrick Henry’s speech had a stronger point of view than Benjamin Franklin The difference between these speeches is that Patrick Henry implores his countrymen to declare war against the British he wanted to fire up the representatives at the convection in VA.
Patrick still endured in the movement for liberty, nonetheless. He, as Sam Adam in Massachusetts did, was effective in creating an insurgency. In February 1775, Sarah died, and a month later, March 20, the Virginia Assembly called the second Revolutionary Convention. Initially, Patrick remained silent: it was not until March 23 when he began to speak.
Patrick Henry was the first governor for the state of Virginia, and also a major figure in the American Revolution. Henry was not very educated, but he had skills that pushed him to leadership in the Revolutionary era. As a member of the House of Burgesses, Henry opposed the 1765 Stamp Act. He helped organize Virginia’s first Committee of Correspondence and served as a representative to the First and Second Continental Congress.
When comparing Sam Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams, we can see that there are some similarities and differences between the men. Perhaps the most notable relation this group has, is that they were all formal presidents and had some type of power or ownership. The qualities of all four men are often seen as opposed to each other. One similarity for example, with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson was that they were prosperous Virginian plantation owners and held slaves. Jefferson and Adams were both well educated people and knew about the law.
Patrick Henry was born in 1736 and believed that the people should be free from the rule of the English Parliament. For example in the Speech in the Virginia Convention he says, “I ask gentlemen, sir, what means this martial array, if its purpose be not to force us to submission?” His words make it clear that the purpose of the martial law is to force people into submission. He then asks the audience, “Can gentlemen assign any other possible motive for it?” Both quotes are great examples of his skills in voice because he brings up the problem and then challenges them to find any other meaning behind the words.
He had said “Give me liberty or give me death”(Henry 85). Patrick Henry and JFK believed freedom was a major role in society. Their way of showing it was where they went separate ways. One believe people should come together and seek out freedom, while the other believed people should fight for it.
Both Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson like many of the founding fathers of America share a ideology concerning independence and freedom in general. Although the two were notably talented writers, the difference in their arguments was their respective deliveries, writing styles, and their timing. Personally, I agree more with the way Thomas Paine chose to present his point of view. Common sense, for example, was a significant eye-opener for many Americans. One of the only reasons it made such huge impact was because it was written in a style that was easy to understand for the average American.
Fredrick Douglas and Benjamin Franklin are both one of the most famous successful in American history. They both followed a certain milestone to make them successful. Even though they are considered hard workers, they both have different obstacles and different views in their lifestyle. Fredrick Douglas used to be a slave who was a fugitive and Benjamin Franklin was young white man who had a rough time with his parent because his parents are very abusive to him. By comparing the difference and similarities by these two great people in American history even though they had their rough times, that does not stop them from their success.
Ben Franklin’s was “Speech in the Convention.” Benjamin Franklin wants to not fight in war but Patrick Henry does. Benjamin Franklin agrees with our Constitution but Henry does not. Benjamin Franklin said that we all need to stand together to prevent war. Franklin was Federalist but Henry was Anti-Federalist.
Final exam Earlier in the semester we were introduced to John De Crevecoeur’s letters from an American Farmer and Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography. The two books both had strong opinions about what American and what the “New Man” was in American during the 18th century. In the 18th century Benjamin franklin was the man who invented the American dream for many people. His Dream was that through hard work and honesty any man can gain respect in the community; along with deserving prosperity and economic protection. he also believed that American was a place where you could come and have a new start.

Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were both born 120 years apart. They were also killed ten days apart in the same month, years apart of course. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were one of the biggest influences on Slavery and Civil Rights. As well as being great leaders during their times. Both of these men were similar, but also had their differences.
Benjamin Franklin and Patrick Henry were two important people in American History who made a difference. Franklin’s “Speech in the Convention and Henry’s “Speech in the Virginia Convention” helped guide our nation to independence and democracy. Both speeches have good examples of rhetorical devices, but I think Patrick Henry speech ‘Speech in the Virginia Convention” has better rhetorical devices. Some examples are rhetorical question, logos, diction, and imagery. Patrick Henry style and content is more effective then Benjamin Franklin because Patrick uses a plethora of things such as imagery, “There is no retreat but in submission and slavery!
Savita Halappanavar is one of many women whose deaths could have been avoided had she been granted the abortion she so desperately needed and requested. Doctors told her that it was impossible for the fetus to survive, and that Savita’s own survival was questionable. Still, Savita was denied an abortion, and as a result, neither Savita nor her potential child survived the pregnancy. This happens to millions of women every year who are denied the right to be liberated from an unviable fetus. Discriminatory, raucous, tyrannical, all of these describe the disregard for the most basic of human rights: The right to control what happens to one’s own body.
