Ethnic-Nationalist versus the State
PLO vs Israel
Introduction
There has always been a geographical conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Even though Muslims and Jewish people once lived in peace, made it clear that the conflict between these groups was not about religion, but due to ethnic identities with the idea. In the early 1900s the idea of nationalism grew around the world. This movement gave the Jewish an opportunity to become a state and started settling in Palestine. Conflict really began in 1915, when the British decided to make promises to divide the land of Palestine between themselves the French and the Arabs, during the First World War. (Harms, 2005) As the years continued tension grew. In 1917, the British established the Balfour Declaration, “which offered the Jews ‘a national home,’ Jillian Becker, author of The PLO continues, “what was now left for a national home for the Jews was kept away from Arab control, causing discontent among the Arabs.” Of course this would leave anyone with discontent. As more and more Jewish people migrated to Palestine allowing the Jewish to occupy land of Arab land owners, which caused a massive refugee population to other neighboring Arab states. (Harms, 2005) Palestine was mainly occupied by the Arab population, with a small yet growing population of the Jewish. As Palestine continued to disappear, there are many uprising between the two groups over wanting the same land. To sum it all up, the Arabs wanting to be nationalized and the Jewish bring promised to have a state of either Israel/Palestine (Boyarin, 1996). With a diminishing Palestine and a growing occupation of Israeli-Jews and the Palestinians only occupying the Gaza strip and the west Bank, led the Arab league in Cairo 1964 was to form the Palestinian Liberation Organization (the PLO). Without caring about the casualties it may affect. Over the years the suppression of the government and the overthrow of governments have lead for group to revolt against them. The major societal problem of terrorism is that extremist from both sides of counterterrorism and those opposing against the state use acts of violence to disrupt peace. The devotion to certain ethnic-nationalist groups is still on the rise and many groups continue to form because the devotion to their nation. Any ethnic group that share a common language, history, and culture constitutes them as an independent state. ('oz, 1997)With that saying, everyone should be free to have their own national state without government
