The types of victims that Ridgway targeted were prostitutes and runaways. Similar to children, these types of women are often vulnerable. Since most of Ridgway’s victims were prostitutes, they were desperate for money and attention, which is why they fell into Ridgway’s traps. He would talk to women and lure them in to the point where they were comfortable. He also asked as if he cared about their problems just to get them into his vehicle. For example, the video stated he would even lie about having numerous amounts of money using it as bait for prostitutes. If Ridgway’s crimes had been perpetrated in the present day, he would not have been able to kill as many women as he did before getting caught. His family seemed like the typical family, he was the second of three children. One of the things that stuck out was the fact that he wet the bed until his early teen years. Another thing is the ways he felt towards his mother. He experienced feelings of lust and humiliation around her, even having sexual fantasies about her; but had feelings of wanting to kill her at the same time. It was also clear that Ridgway was a violent child. For example, he strangled a cat, was an arsonist, and at the age of 16 stabbed a boy. When stabbing the boy, he said that he just wanted to see how it felt to kill someone. On both instances he was not punished, which was the start of his violent behavior. Ridgway struggled in school as well, with a very low IQ, he had to repeat one year twice. Another event that contributed to his behavior is when he got an STD from a prostitute while in the army overseas. That incident caused him to develop a strong hate for prostitutes and ultimately played a role in the murders of many innocent
