Athens and Sparta were two powerful city-states in ancient Greece, with distinct social structures. Athens had slaves who performed work for their lord, who were considered property and had no rights. They were used for various tasks, such as farming, mining, and domestic work. In contrast, Sparta had helots who worked the land and were owned by the state and had no rights.

The education system in Athens focused on developing well-rounded individuals who could think critically and participate in public life. Boys received reading, writing, music, and physical education, while girls received domestic skills like weaving and cooking. In contrast, Sparta focused on producing strong warriors who could defend the state. Boys began military training …show more content…

In Sparta, women had more rights than women in any other Greek city-state of the Classical Period (5th-4th centuries BCE), and Spartan women had more autonomy than women in Athens.
