All throughout history, mother countries all over the world have tried to take over many different Native American civilizations. Some countries succeeded and were able to spread their culture, religion and language. Others on the other hand were defeated and did not get this opportunity. Two major Native American civilizations that were conquered in the Central America and South America were the Aztecs and the Incas. Even though the way that the Aztec and Inca governments were different, they were both a monarchy and the king held the most power. Another similarity was how they started. Both the Aztecs and the Incas were based on civilizations before them. As they began to grow, both conquered the neighboring smaller and weaker city-states. With this, both quickly flourished. But soon the Spanish came over and that all came to an end. Along with the Spanish came foreign disease that decimated both populations. When the Spanish came into contact with these civilizations, they tried to spread their religion, Catholicism. In the process of the Spaniards trying to conquer the Aztecs and the Incas, both Cortés and Pizarro took the leaders, Motecuhzoma and Atahuallpa, hostage. Both Motecuhzoma and Atahuallpa offered a large quantity of treasures in hopes of being released but the Spaniards took the treasures and did not release them. Following this, both leaders were killed. Following the death of the leaders, it was not long until both empires ultimately fell to the Spanish rule.
