Ella Fitzgerald and Ethel Merman are both prominent singers who take Cole Porter’s song and interpret it into their own. Though each rendition is distinctive to their own style, they are similar in the way that the instruments accompany their voices throughout the song. In Ella’s version, the instruments in the background create a melody that support Ella’s voice even though it is improvised. Though the instruments in Ethel’s version is more orchestrated the rhythm and melody are never unchanging in order to maintain the musical tone she has created.
In the story “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” a boy takes a girl named Sheila Mant on a date and has to make a difficult decision. That difficult decision is his dream girl or a huge fish that he might never get the chance to catch again. This is a hard choice to make because he loves fishing, but Sheila on the other hand does not. He could pick Sheila because he loves her very much. For the past couple of summers he has been admiring and watching her.
Recently I read the book, Tangerine. The story is about a boy named Paul Fisher and his family moving to Tangerine, Florida. The theme is even though it appears perfect on the outside, the inside is grotesque. In this passage, there are many ugly things that happen to Paul and his family. Beguile occurrences take place in the form of a muck fire, sinkhole, and thievery.
Antwone Fisher Memoir Essay Finding Fish is a story of a young, unloved boy growing up and overcoming all obstacles and hardships in order to become an amazing man. Antwone Quenton Fisher was born on August 3, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in a prison to Eva Mae Fisher and Eddie Elkins, who was killed before he was born. As a result of this, Antwone grew up in the foster system and he was placed in the unloving home of his foster parents, Mrs. Isabella Pickett and Reverend Ulysses Pickett.
Character Analysis He is a young aboriginal boy at the edge of the earth living with the white settlers learning their ways. He was living a happy life when everything was torn away him, his family, his people and his aboriginal ways. He has to start again and rebuild his life learning a new language and the new English ways. He takes on the new life with resilience and heart, striving in the new colony. Jackie French has portrayed her character Nanberry in an interesting way due to his constantly changing character.
The author writes, “Joe said nothing, but looked over the side of the boat. He saw the body of Mabel Mallison not far away. But it was at the lake bottom and did not offer to rise. Then he gave a second look and saw that the dress of the unfortunate one was caught in some sharp rocks. Without hesitation he dived overboard, straight for the bottom.
Imagery of the bass, the river, and Sheila Mant One of the main themes of this story is that sacrifice. The narrator of this story is not given a name but he is fourteen year old. The narrator has a major crush on a women- seventeen year old, Sheila Mant. The narrator finally, and I say finally, asks Sheila on a date via the narrator’s boat.
In the pieces “Siren Song” by Margaret Atwood and “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been” by Joyce Carol Oates, the authors play on the idea of how a hunger for lust can be a hunt and turn the character into a predator. In order for the predator to achieve this, they must know the prey and it’s weakness very thoroughly. In “Siren Song”, the predator is a siren who attempting to attract men to her position. On the contrary, in “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been”, the hunter is Arnold Friend, who tries to appeal to Connie’s weaknesses. Both characters have a firm understanding of the prey they are hunting,
“Freddie in the Shade” and ‘Follow the Water” have many similarities and differences such as the theme and how the theme creates a specific mood about both stories. One similarity, “Freddie in the Shade” and “Follow the Water” is that both of the stories have to decide to make can important decision. Both stories have to make a decision. In “Freddie in the shade”, Freddie has or decide if he wants to change and open up to people. An example is, Freddie decides to get a job at a bakery.
Wetherell’s story “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant”. The 14-year old narrator is facing a huge predicament. The boy is on a date with the girl of his dreams. The boy and girl are canoeing up a river in Vermont. The young girl, Sheila, has informed the narrator of her disgust of fishing.
Mr. Birling, Sheila's father, is the first to be questioned by the Inspector. Mr. Birling is a wealthy businessman who runs his own factory, and he is dismissive of the idea that he could be responsible for the death of a young woman. He argues that his only responsibility is to run his business and make a profit, and that he cannot be held accountable for the actions of his employees. However, the Inspector challenges Mr. Birling's beliefs, and forces him to acknowledge that his own actions and decisions contributed to Eva Smith's death.
Compare and Contrast A Christmas Carol is full of many twists and turns, and has been written in many different versions. Writers have taken artistic liberties and have added or taken away to the beloved Christmas story to make it their own. No two versions are going to be exactly similar, and most definitely are going to have many differences. The play and the movie both follow the basic plotline of the classic novel, A Christmas Carol.
“Children of the River takes place in Cambodia, then she goes to America with her aunt. In Cambodia they don 't have phones, or tv, or even much technology. Unlike here in America we have all kinds of technologies like, iphones, ipods, ipads, computers, and televisions. “Children of the River” is about a thirteen year old girl, Sundara who lives in Cambodia. “She goes to visit her aunt and uncle when he and her aunt, Soka decide to flee Cambodia to go to America”.
Every novel or stories gives a fundamental ideas or lesson for the readers. Most of the lesson are informative and it brings a changes to the readers mind. There will be a universal of an ideas explored in a literature and readers can abstract numerous themes depending on each individual. Similarly, in the novel “the old man and the sea” Hemingway depicted several themes related to nature, people and so on. However determination can also be one of the theme for the readers because the old man, Santiago didn’t gave up fishing even if he had cramp but he took this as an encouragement in his old age.
