Compare And Contrast The Emancipation Proclamation And I Have A Dream Speech

Even though “The Emancipation Proclamation” and the “I Have a Dream” speech were given one hundred years apart, they both had different outcomes. Both are well known speeches given by Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. Although they are very similar, they also have their differences. They both impacted the nation, making some angry and some in support of it. “The Emancipation Proclamation” ended slavery, while the “I Have a Dream” speech started a movement for equality. “The Emancipation Proclamation” was a speech given by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. At one part of the speech, he says, “All persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.” Abrams’s purpose in writing and giving this speech was to put an end to slavery for good. He explained that in no state was slavery tolerated, which sparked rage especially in the south. Since the south did not agree with this, the south decided to split off from the north. This explains the struggles that African Americans faced at the time, and how they were treated unfairly. King wanted to start a movement for equality by giving this speech, he thought that even though slavery ended, equality was not given. One part says, “But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.” Many supported him and the movement for everyone to be treated
