country is a superpower in the world, while the second is a small pin on the world map. One country is built around liberalism and the other around socialism. It is not only politically and in terms of size these two countries differ from each other. Culture-wise, there is a world of difference. A difference that borders on a smaller culture shock.
To highlight the differences between the countries i will use “The Geert Hofstede Cultural onion” I am doing the model for both Denmark and the United States. Subsequently, I will compare the two completed models and finally make a conclusion on the differences.

The Americans openness and helpfulness fascinated me enormously. Especially when coming from the Danish culture, where conversations with strangers in public is incredibly rare and unusual. Every time you met a stranger, they asked where you come from and what you did here. Then you got almost their life story. A special experience when coming from a culture, where people is reserved and sharing itself to a stranger is a very personal thing.
Denmark is often described as one of the world's happiest countries. This is something I have been very astonished at after visiting the United States.
Why are we one of the happiest people in the world? We have arguably the world's most well-functioning welfare state and one of the lowest rates of homeless. In short, outwardly a perfect country due to our effective and inspiring democracy and our recognized right to freedom of expression. But inwardly "world's happiest people" is a misplaced and incorrect designation. Our population is characterized by stuffiness and prejudice against people you do not know, except when you are drunk! Something that should characterize a happiest population should not be measured in wealth, but how open you are to things that are different than yourself.
