The Mayans’ greatest achievement was neither developing a calendar, nor establishing a complex trade system- but rather, the building of their gigantic cities. But what defines excellency? The answer can be categorized into four sections: significance, scale, genius, and effort. The ancient Mayan civilization thrived in isolation, and it wasn’t until recently that we began to truly appreciate their culture and accomplishments.
The Columbian Exchange between the new world and the old world significantly change people’s lives. After 1492, Europeans brought in horses to America which changes the nomadic Native American groups’ living from riding on buffalos to horses. This interchange also change the diet of the rest of the world with foods such as corns (maize), potatoes which are major diet for European nowadays. Besides all the animals from old world to the new world, Spanish also brought in the diseases that Native Americans were not immune of, such as smallpox which led to a large amount of Native Americans’ deaths.
The Incas and the Aztecs both fell at the hands of Spanish conquistadors. The Aztecs had a weakness in its empire which was that the Aztec emperor welcomed strangers which was a huge part of their fall. Also the emperor of the Aztecs Moctezuma gave them gifts. The Spaniards left and the came back, and had better weapons then the Aztecs had. They also brought deadly diseases.

Though significantly larger, this empire did not last as long as the Mayans, spanning from the 1400s to the 1500s. Unlike the Mayans, the Incas had an all-powerful ruler: the Sapa Inca, who they believed to be the “son of the sun”. The Sapa Inca owned everything and also controlled the whole government and its positions. Many of these government positions were based on nepotism, meaning that he gave his family members high-ranking positions. The people who held these positions made all the decisions and laws, and if you were to break the laws, then the punishment would almost always be death.

The Americas under the English and the Spanish The Americas in the mid 17th and 18th century was a hot ground for colonization potentially due to unexplored land. Colonists from all parts of the world wanted to get a taste of what it would be like to be on the American continent. Although different colonists had different motivations for creating a stronghold in America, the two most important powers come to mind: The Spanish and the English. They both had different motivations for colonizing the American continent.
Compare and Contrast the Native American Culture Introduction The Native Americans were the original owners of the United States of America. The Americas Ancient America consists of three main civilizations. The Mayan Empire, The Incan Empire, and The Aztec Empire. “The Maya Civilization lived in Central America, including south Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras between 2500 BCE and 1500 CE. The Inca were a tribe around the 12th century who formed a city-state. The Aztecs were a people who came into the Valley of Mexico in the 12th century and quickly rose to become the dominant power in Mesoamerica.”
I think the Inca are the best civilization. The Mayan and Aztec civilizations were also great civilizations, but I feel they did more things I didn’t like. The Mayans were a great civilization with the number zero and other accomplishments that the Aztec and Inca don’t have such as a very long empire. However, they broke up, died, because of civil disagreements.
When comparing the Southwest indians to the Eastern Woodlands indians I found there were some differences, in their homes, the indians in the Southwest had hut like homes made of stone or adobe while indians in the Eastern Woodlands had lodge like homes made from wood. Farming and hunting seemed to be big for the Eastern Woodlands, but most of the Southwest people were just gatherers and hunters when they could be, although there were some successful farmers. Both areas had hostile groups of people, but the two groups in the Southwest later became more settled and peaceful. The Eastern Woodlands and the Great Plains had a few differences, again their homes being one of them.
The Spanish based their colonies on the promise of finding gold and possessing it, while the English Settlers based their colonies on the preaching of Christianity all while believing that the land they possessed and owned was how they would gain their liberty, independence, and ultimately their freedom. The Native Americans believed that the land belonged to not one person, but to a community instead; as long a you showed deep respect for it and cared for it as so mandated by the great spirit. Whether it be by the use of violence, religious education, or respect, every society and every person had different views on how the land and its resources should be
The Spanish colonized to expand their empire economically through resource
Throughout time civilizations have risen and collapsed. Some were conquered while others simply disappeared. The Egyptian civilization thrived near the Nile River from 3000 B.C. and was later conquered by the Persian Empire around 525 B.C. In the other hand, the Mayan civilization developed in Yucatan Peninsula around 200 B.C., and mysterious disappeared around 900 A.D. However, these two cultures share many factors in common such as developing calendars and building pyramids. Even though civilizations developed in different time periods, they can still have many factors in common such as environment, language, and architecture.
