If you know anything about American politics, you probably are well aware of the fact that there are only two major political parties in the United States. On the liberal end of the spectrum of politics is The Democratic Party, and on the conservative end, The Republican Party. One concept of politics that applies here, and to any democracies that use majority-rules or plurality-rules systems, is Duverger’s Law, which says that simple majority systems favor the use of only two parties.
