MIBC 104 – Political Science Unit 4 Assignment Research parties in the United States and share information from at least three parties. To my surprise, there are so many choices from which to pick. There are major and minor political parties, as well as regional political parties, historical parties, non- electoral organizations, and who knows how many more. With so many to choose from, most of which I have never heard of, I will choose three that sound remotely interesting.
In the United States there are two major parties involved in our political structure, Democrats and Republicans. Since 1836, these two parties have dominated the political scene and Democrats and Republicans have controlled Congress and the presidency since 1860. Now, within these two parties there are people with progressive and conservative ideologies. These ideologies are not confined to only one political party, but instead are largely based on the individual’s opinion and perspective. Generally speaking though, most conservatives are Republicans and most progressives are Democrats.
Political party systems were dead after the Federalists crashed and burned due to a series of mishaps. However, the detrimental institute of political parties was revived as a result of the Jacksonian era. This is due to contributions of a combination of major political personalities and economic issues. Therefore, the disagreements between various men over a vast amount of issues lead to the separation of the Demo-Repubs into two different parties - the Democrats and the Republicans. Political parties had been around for decades, even though George Washington left a specific warning not to form them.
Political parties began in America when two of George Washington’s advisors, Alexander Hamilton, leader of the Federalist and Thomas Jefferson, leader of the Democratic Republicans disagreed on political issues. Newspapers also influenced political parties. The Federalists and the Democratic Republicans were political parties that were created when an agreement could not be made for what would be best for the country. Hamilton was influenced by Britain to encourage trade and manufacturing, while Jefferson favored farming. Hamilton also favored a strong federal government, while Jefferson believed it would take the state’s power.

The two where some of the nation's founders and they began to grow farther apart as the two ended up having different political views. During the establishment of the United States, the problems the founding fathers faced helped to form a constitution that is still followed to this day. Conditions of the country in the late 1700s and today are similar- debt, foreign threats, and unhappy people. But if the government today were to face a problem big enough to wreck the country, the United States would not be able to survive. It would not be possible to re-establish the government due to a divide among the people, the lack of dominant leaders, and the condition that the government is in.
During the first presidency with George Washington, there were no political parties. It was not until 1796 until voters broke into factions and started to vote for towards their ideological leanings. George Washington feared this, and even spoke about his ideas in his Farewell Address in 1796. George Washington was opposed to different political parties because he feared that once one party got elected into office, it would take over too much power and neglect the other party. Against Washington’s wishes, voters formed the first party system with the Federalists versus the Democrat-Republicans with the election of 1796.
Political parties, Democratic Republicans and Federalists, started in the U.S. because of differing views of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, and the influence of newspapers. Jefferson’s and Hamilton’s different ways of thinking(mostly on issues that was beneficial for the country) played a huge part in the start of political parties. They fought about economy. Jefferson liked farming while Hamilton preferred manufacturing and trade. Interpretation of the Constitution was another thing they fought upon.

Kathryn Stockett, in her novel, uses contrast as a major theme or idea throughout the novel. Many things are contrasted throughout the novel, like people, places, and things. Contrasting places plays an important role in this story and represent two opposed forces or ideas that are central to the meaning of the piece. A major place of contrast in The Help is the parts of town separated for blacks and whites in Jackson, Mississippi.
“Political parties” did not begin until the late 1600s, yet It all really began in 1787, when the so called “political parties” started calling themselves Federalists. This was when the first political party started in the United States. In 1796, everything got bigger and more productive. That’s when everyone gathered around Jefferson, those members called themselves Democratic-Republicans. A political party is a gathering of individuals who meet up to contest elections and hold control in the government.
Republicans vs. Democrats When the United States of America was founded, George Washington warned against the formation of political parties. By the time the second election came around there were already two political parties, the Federalist and Democratic-Republicans. These parties eventually turned into the Republican and Democratic parties we have today. While these parties have shifted to become almost polar opposites politically, they still share some common goals.
A political party is an alliance of like-minded individuals who work together in an effort to win elections and control the government in their favor. They compete against each other for political power and the ability to put their ideologies into affect. There are two major parties in the United States, the Democrats and the Republicans. Their philosophies and political platforms are very different. Democrats believe in a strong federal government that has an active role in citizens lives while republicans believe in a small government that should have little to no role.
Finally, it will be argued that the modern political party system in the United States is a two-party system dominated by the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. These two parties have won every United States presidential election since 1852 and have controlled the United States Congress since 1856. The Democratic Party generally positions itself as centre-left in American politics and supports a modern American liberal platform, while the Republican Party generally positions itself as centre-right and supports a modern American conservative platform. Political parties serve countless roles in America’s government. Foremost, it needs to be said they are crucial to America’s political system. The political parties are the heart and brain of our government's body, urging people to conceive and feel different ways on different topics whether the controversy is over how money is distributed or the way immigrants should be treated or dealt with. With each party having a biased view it shows how a group can be increasingly powerful with bountiful amounts of support, names and divisions can be heard. Democrats are widely known to be liberal rather than conservative.
