Directions: Make corrections to the text. One of the most popular American poems, "The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe, was published on January 29, 1845. “Once upon a midnight dreary," the poem begins. That poem brought fame to its author, but it did not bring riches.
The Dark Truth “The Raven”, by Edgar Allen Poe, and “The Minister’s Black Veil”, by Nathaniel Hawthorne are two stories that show the dark and twisted side of humanity. Edgar Allen Poe is best known for writing his stories about death and the darkness of death. This in turn makes all his seem to be this style where as “The Raven” is a creation of humans seeking hope in a situation that is hopeless. Hawthorne writes about the good and bad in the choices we choose. In “The Ministers Black Veil” Hawthorne confronts a touchy subject by displaying how the congregations covers their sin like a veil covers the face.
“Annabel Lee” is the shared named of a poem and a song based off of it. Edgar Allen Poe wrote the poem “Annabel Lee” in 1849. The poem is about a man who has lost his love and is in mourning. Tiger Army wrote a song based on the poem in 2001. There are many similarities in the two pieces as well as some differences.
The poems, “Annabel Lee” and “The Raven,” have a common theme of despair leads to obsessive behavior. The two poems have been written by the same poet, Edgar Allan Poe. In “ The Raven” the overall concept is a man who talks to a raven who flew into his house and talks to it about his dead loved one. In the other story “Annabel Lee” it is about a man who feels ultimate sorrow for his dead partner and who he keeps saying that he missed. First of all, the speaker in “Annabelle Lee” is obsessed with the loss of his significant other.
Most poems are about different topics. They also could have different ways of writing such as personification or rhyming. Other poems could have similar topics and similar ways of writing. I am going to show a few ways that Abandoned Farmhouse and Nothing Gold can Stay are different. And a few ways they are the same.

Raven vs. Christian In a survival situation there are two options: be sensible or be foolish. In a situation where a person must choose between life and death, most people tend to choose life. In How Did This Just Happen the author tells a story of a group of friends who fight day in and day out to survive a zombie apocalypse. Two main characters: Raven and Christian, are alike in multiple ways, however, they could not be more different.
Poets are not given the credits they deserve. When reading a poem one thinks about the meaning behind it but does not enjoy the beauty of it. People never truly focus on the beauty of the different words the poet uses and why they use them. In Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, “The Raven” he uses many sound devices to set the overall mood of the poem. The sound devices he uses are assonance, rhyme, and alliteration.
With their similarities in writing styles, we see the struggle that the human mind goes through when dealing with dark obsession, an important aspect of the human condition. There are also some differences, for instance, there is death in both but they are a bit different, and one of the narrators has more control of their situation than the other. Not everything is as it appears, for example in Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart.”

Edgar Allan Poe is irrevocably in love with Annabel Lee at the start and throughout the whole of this poem. Annabel Lee is just the same reciprocating the exact same feelings if not more. “With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven coveted her and me” this portrays to me a love so strong and so passionate that even heaven has reckoned it by blessing their relationship with an angelic power. “Annabel Lee” and “The Raven” are similar because they both have the same mood and topic; however the two poems are different because the speaker felt differently about both of his lost girls. In the poem “Annabel Lee” and “The Raven” the mood is sad. In the poem “Annabel Lee” it states, “ In her sculpture there by the sea /
He never did took inspiration from the works from other writers, it seems that only Poe´s imagination and life experiences seemed to create this stories and adventures Edgar writed. He was looked up more from the writers as an inspiration, it was the other way around. The inspiration to Poe 's darkest and most well known poem, written in 1845, was a real raven that was the beloved pet of the writer Charles Dickens who named it Grip. Dickens was fascinated by the behaviors of his pet and kept it in his stables to study it.
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most notable poets as he has had many powerful and creative pieces that became very popular. As a young boy he had many problems growing up Poe lost his mother when he was only sixteen and left to fend for himself. Throughout his life he was a hopeless romantic who got into a lot of relationships. One of the most known relationships that he got into was with Annabel Lee in which he had created as his last poem before his unexpected death, Annabel Lee. At the time he wasn’t only mourning the death of Annabel Lee but also the death of his wife a few years back which is the reason that he wrote The Raven.

In the poem, "The Raven," by Edgar Allen Poe is about a raven that flies into a lonely and sad man's house, he is alone and weak, he is weary of trying to distract himself from his sorrow. It expresses Poe's sense of melancholy and gloominess. The speaker's tone changes throughout the poem dramatically changes as he realizes the true meaning of meeting with the Raven.
