The citizens of many countries have given up their rights to a few, who have been elected through a free and fair process. The elected leaders have the power to rule them fairly. In addition, they protect the citizens from their enemies as well as the uncertainties that may arise in the course of their lives. Those in the authority should do everything in their power to ensure that the citizens that are safe. Their primary duty is protection whereby they help the citizens to safeguard their families as well as possessions from any forces beyond their control (Ignatieff, 2005).
