Did the jump off the cliff really kill Butchie? In the story the “The Ravine”,Vinny and Joe-Boy are 15 year old, hawaiian boys. They are best friends. They’re going to the ravine to cliff jump and swim. Two weeks and one day before they arrived to the ravine, a boy died jumping from the precipice. Vinnie and Joe-Boy are different in many ways and are similar in a few ways. Vinny is weak he can not stand up to friends , on page seven, Vinny did not want to go to the ravine, he thought that if he told his friends that his mom wouldn't let him go, they would laugh at him. Vinny thought this made him look “weak”.Vinny is afraid of the dead boys body, he is afraid that he might step on the dead boys body or might touch him when he jumps from the fifty foot precipice. Vinny is freaked out and he is confused about if the dead boy is actually dead. He thinks that the dead boy might have been taken by the stone goddess.
