In chapter 7 of the novel “The Outsiders” the author begins chapter 7 by introducing pony-boy and three others waiting to hear about dally and Johnny. Reporters then showed up, and so did the police. They began questioning pony boy too quickly that he was muddled up in confusion. Pony-boy felt nervous around the policemen and because of all the questions being asked all at once, pony-boy felt terribly sick. Darry then got the reporters to back off on questioning Pony boy because he wasn’t feeling well, and being bombarded with questions only made things worst. On the other hand, soda pop begins clowning around, pretending to be a reporter himself and making others around him laugh. Everyone didn’t mind a bit of a jolly. Pony-boy struggles of eat, so he decides to hit-the-sack and soon manages to sleep after taking 5 aspirins. Darry believed that he had only take one aspirin, but it turns out he usually has a few more than that, so he had probably taken four instead. Thoughts of the rumble only made the situation worst, so Pony-boy decides to take a shower and gets ready soon after. Darry wasn’t sure if Pony-boy should fight in the rumble tonight. Obviously the rumble tonight wouldn’t just be a walk in the park, this was a serious and dangerous showdown. He knows Pony-boy's a good fighter, but he's been through a lot over the past week and might not be in prime fighting mode. But Pony-boy has to fight tonight, even if he isn’t fond of fighting. He has to help defeat the Socs for Johnny. Reluctantly, Darry gives in and agrees to let Pony-boy fight. Ready to go, the boys flipped and cartwheeled down the stairs and into the yard. They then steadily walked to the lot for the rumble. No sweat. Darry tells Pony-boy and Soda to leave the rumble if the police come; if they get in trouble tonight, Darry could lose custody of Pony-boy and Soda. Soda and Pony-boy agree to do what he wants. Pony-boy stumbles around for hours in shock and disappointment. A young man in a car stops and offers Pony-boy a ride. He asks what happened to Pony-boy and he says he was in a rumble. The man tells him that he's bleedin all over his car seats. Pony-boy hadn't even realized he was bleeding. The man tells him it's his head. When Pony-boy touches it, his hand was covered in blood. The man gets Pony-boy's address and drives him home. The gang is here, looking pretty wounded from the rumble too. Pony-boy is confused. He tells them Johnny's dead, even though something inside him doesn't believe it. He also tells them that Dallas ran off, like he was about to explode. Pony realizes that Johnny was the one thing Dally loved. Soda-pop and Dally are concerned for Pony-boy and they try to help him to a chair, but he won't let them. The phone rings and Darry answers. It's Dally on the line. He just robbed a grocery store and is running from the cops. He's coming to the lot so the gang can help him hide. They get to the lot about the same time as Dally, who's been running as fast as he can. They hear the sirens and soon a police car arrives. The officer gets out, and Dally takes something out of his waistband. Pony-boy remembers Dally telling him and Johnny that he'd started carrying a gun, but that it wasn't loaded. Dally
