These two chapters describe the start of intellectual unity. The historic information was from the French Revolution. A part of the revolution is the philosophers of the time who changed people’s thinking. The idea of educational opportunities as a human right came across. Jean-Jacque Rousseau’s “Social Contract Theory” inspired the French Revolution slogan “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.” One person who Wilson focuses most in this chapter is Marquis de Condorcet because he created many of the intellectual ideas of the time. Condorcet’s death in March 1794 marks the end of the Enlightenment period.
