In act 3, Tybalt waits for Romeo to punish him for attending the masked party the other day. Upon arrival Mercutio challenges Tybalt to a duel. Romeo trying to intervene holds Mercutio back restraining him as Tybalt stabs Mercutio and flees. Mercutio is wounded and later Benvolio comes with the news that he has passed. Angry, Romeo seeks revenge on Tybalt. When Tybalt reappears Romeo challenges him to a duel and ends up killing Tybalt, soon fleeing when hearing of the prince to arrive shortly. Upon the princes arrival he hears the story but will not let Romeo go unblamed. He banishes Romeo from Verona and promises death if he does not obey this. Juliet gives the nurse a ring for Romeo to wear upon his arrival. The Capulet’s then discuss Juliet’s and Paris’ marriage that will take place later in the week. When Romeo and Juliet are lying in bed with one another in the morning the nurse arrives warning Juliet that her mother is on her way. Romeo descends from the balcony after saying his goodbyes and Lady Capulet enters with the news of Juliet’s wedding. Juliet becomes angry explaining how she much rather marry Romeo than Paris. Lord Capulet enters furious calling Juliet “young baggage” and demands that her marriage will take place. The nurse betrays Juliet speaking of how Paris would make a fine husband. Juliet orders her to leave as she prepares to leave to find Friar Laurence. As the nurse leaves Juliet calls out to her calling her an “ancient damnation!” In this act it shows Juliet’s loyalty to Romeo and how deep her love has gone for him. After a short period of time she too has fallen in love with him and will do anything; even stating how she would much rather have her own parents killed than to have Romeo face
