Comparing Algonquin Cinderella And Yeh-Shen

There are many stories or versions of Cinderella, but I will only be talking about 4 of over 900 versions there are. These four stories are similar but also have their differences, which is what I will be point out throughout this essay. I will be talking specifically about the stories called “Aschenputtel”, “ Yeh-Shen”, “The Algonquin Cinderella”, and one poem called “Interview”. They are very interesting stories and I encourage you to read them.

Between the stories “The Algonquin Cinderella”, “Aschenputtel”, and “Yeh-Shen” there are many similarities. In the first place they all have a Cinderella character. Besides the three stories I talked about in the last paragraph, I will also be contrasting the poem called, “Interview”. In “Interview” there is only a step-mother. There are no step-sisters. While in the other three stories there is at least one step-sister. Another characteristic that the poem has and the stories do not is that it is based only on the step-mother’s point of view. It also rhymes and has a glass slipper, while “Aschenputtel” and “Yeh-Shen” had a gold slipper and “The Algonquin Cinderella” had a moccasin. Those three stories also different. In “Aschenputtel” her father dies. In “Yeh-Shen” her father does not. They also have very different magical characters. In “The Algonquin Cinderella” she has no step-mother. Another thing that really surprised me was that one of the step-sisters was nice ai times to Oochigeaskw. One big thing that is different between the stories and poem is that they come from different origins. “Aschenputtel” is German, “Yhe-Shen” is Chinese, “The Algonquin Cinderella” is Native American, and “Interview is modern American.
