Comparing Characters In 'The Giver'

Would you ever sacrifice something so big for the people who you love? In the book The Giver Jonas sacrifices his life for his community. In 2014, the movie version was created and still shows this great love for others. Even though people loved the book for many years, the new movie version has brought life to the book and enhanced it many differences.
The movie producers kept a lot of similarities from the book. For example, the movie and the book are similar with Jonas’s first memory of snow. In both versions of the memory of snow, Jonas finds a sled and rides it down a hill as the snow is falling on him gracefully. Also, in both the movie and book Jonas had heard music at the end. The reason that Jonas heard music at the end of the story could have meant many things. For example, it could have meant The Giver was released, but it also could have all just been a dream. For example the Chief Elder is barley mentioned in the book, but in the movie she was a main character. The reason the director brought her into the movie more than the book was because they needed an antagonist and she was the bad person keeping everything equal. Another example of differences is in the book they have blue eyes to define them as “the one”, however, in the movie they have a certain mark to show that the are the chosen one. The reason they had change that is because in the movie it starts out black and white so your cant tell if someones eyes are blue. It had made the movie more realistic with them having a mark on their wrist. Another difference in the book is when The Giver touches Jonas’s back to transmit memories. In the movie, The Giver grabs Jonas’s wrists to transfer the memories. In conclusion the directors changed these events to spice up the plot and
