Comparing Disney's Adaptation Of 'Beauty And The Beast'

Disney’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” is very different than Italo Calvino’s version of this story. Everyone thinks about Disney’s version when hearing about “Beauty and the Beast”, which is why reading this story was so different. In the Italian version, Bellinda had 2 sisters who made her life miserable and they always tried to bother her and hurt her. In the Disney version, Bell did not have any sisters, yet she had her father and they were still very close. In both stories, the rose symbolized the beast’s life at the end of the story and the father promised Bell(inda) to get her a rose. They gave insight to why the beast was like this and helped Bell realize that he really is a nice guy behind that scary exterior. I think every book or story, is better as a movie, because a movie shows more than just words. It really depicts what the author’s image really was. Books and stories leave the reader to analyze everything and to decipher the author’s intentions. I personally liked the Disney version better for the fact that you can really see what is truly going on. I liked the story of the Italian version much better because it is not what everyone knows. Everyone thinks of the Disney version when they think of “Beauty and the Beast”, so this was a nice alternative. I feel if they made a movie of the Italian version, I would like that much more. Since, I don't like song and dance, the Italian version was better because it did not have any dancing, but the Disney version was cluttered with it and went against my taste. I feel like Italo Calvino really thought out this story more than the Disney version, especially since they just took from the old Disney version.
