I read the book Where the Red Fern Grows. This book is written by the author Wilson Rawls and was published in 1961. The movie was released in 1974. This book was about a 12 year old boy named Billy, who had a passion for hounds. Billy worked hard to save up for two hunting dogs. He trained his dogs to be the best coon hounds in the Ozarks. Lots of exciting events occured in this book for example when a mountain lion got into a fight with the dogs. Or when one of the boys that he made a bet with dies. There are many other tragic things about the book but in my opinion the movie was better. The reason I think the movie was better is because it gave me a better visualization of what was happening. The first one is when Rubin (the kid he made a bet with) trips and hits an axe. Pg. 167 “I watched him until he disappeared in the darkness. Looking down at Rubin, I saw what had paralyzed Rainie. When Rubin had tripped, he had fallen on the axe. As it entered his stomach, the sharp blade had sunk to the eye of the double-bitted axe.” Time of movie 58:13 “Rubin, they’re killin Old blue!’ ‘I’ll kill them damn hounds!’ ‘Please, take it out’ ‘go get help… go get help!!!’”. Looking at the two different quotes you can see that they are a lot different. Looking at the books’ quote it is a lot more detailed and described
